Listening to Jesus

Transfiguration Sunday

Doom to you! You pretend to have the inside track. You shut God out and work behind the scenes, Plotting the future as if you knew everything, acting mysterious, never showing your hand. ~ Isaiah 29:15 (MSG)

Whoever accepts the truth listens to my voice. ~ John 18:37(CEB)

KEY IDEA:
Those who believe in the value of truth will disregard their arrogant impulses and instead listen to Jesus.
PRAYER:
Gracious Jesus, you are the way the truth and the life! Thank you for providing the truth that allows us to live well and move smoothly on the way through life. I accept as truth who you are, what you've done, and what you say. But sometimes my arrogance gets the best of me and I try to plot my own course for life. It's not that I completely ignore you or your truth but I become over-confident of my own abilities to make my way and I sort'a forget that you are talking. Give me ears to hear and a heart to receive your voice. I'm going to let you transform me into an active listener. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2011 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
