Looking for God

The 17th Sunday after Pentecost

Come back, God -- how long do we have to wait? -- and treat your servants with kindness for a change. ~ Psalm 90:13 (MSG)

You are now very sad. But later I will see you, and you will be so happy that no one will be able to change the way you feel. ~ John 16:22 (CEV)

KEY IDEA:
God will not desert you. Let that make you happy.
PRAYER:
God, thank you for staying with us through both the good and bad times. Sometimes it feels like you are distant. But I know that feeling is a trick my mind plays on me when things are not happening exactly as I'd like. Help me to adjust my expectations according to your plans and promises. I want to see you in the midst of each and every situation. That's my goal. That's what will make me happy. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2011 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
