God's victory

God is all strength for his people... ~ Psalm 28:8a (MSG)

But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. ~ 1 Corinthians 15:57 (NLT)

KEY IDEA:
We can count on being victorious when we are on God's side.
PRAYER:
Almighty God, I'm thankful that I get to be on your side. Often, though, I take it on myself to be victorious. I say that I'm counting on you but then I go to battle like it is all up to me. Firm up my faith. I'm going to confidently face the problems in front of me because I know that you are powerful enough to defeat every enemy -- even death itself. Amen.

God's saving power

Tell the heavens to send down justice like showers of rain. Prepare the earth for my saving power to sprout and produce justice that I, the Lord, create. ~ Isaiah 45:8 (CEV)

Look, now is the right time! Look, now is the day of salvation! ~ 2 Corinthians 6:2b (CEB)

KEY IDEA :
Line your life up with what God is doing!
PRAYER:
Lord, I know that you are going to fix creation. You are going to make everything right again. But it is so tempting to think of all that as distant future. Open my eyes so that I can see. Light a fire under me so that I get moving. I'm not only going to be ready but I'm going to tune into what you are doing now. I'm going to become your junior partner in project justice. Amen.

Eagle's wings

The Lord says: I brought you here to me, just as a mighty eagle carries its young. ~ Exodus 19:4b (CEV)

With God’s power working in us, God can do much, much more than anything we can ask or imagine. To him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus for all time, forever and ever. Amen. ~ Ephesians 3:20-21a (NCV)

KEY IDEA:
God is working powerfully among us.
PRAYER:
Thank you, Lord, for carrying me when I was so helpless. I am ashamed that I still get stressed out by all the trouble around me. Help me to look to Christ Jesus who has carried all people to safety. I don't want to resist your firm grasp anymore. I'm going to relax and go along for the ride. Amen.

Big harvest

Now, who is ready to give himself to the service of the Lord today? ~ 1 Chronicles 29:5b (NCV)

Remember this: The person who plants a little will have a small harvest, but the person who plants a lot will have a big harvest. ~ 2 Corinthians 9:6 (NCV)

KEY IDEA:
Greater returns come to those who make greater investments in serving the Lord.
PRAYER:
Lord, thank you for producing big harvests. I confess, though, that my investment in what you are doing is small -- yet I'm still looking for a big return. Help me to get with your program. I'd like to see a big harvest with lots of people living with Jesus and according to the ways of his kingdom. That is a big goal in my life. Amen.

DAILYTEXTS.ORG

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2011 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
