I will wait for the Lord to help us,
the Lord who is ashamed of the family of Israel.
I will wait for him. ~ Isaiah 8:17 (NCV)
So we are always confident, even though we know that as long as we live in these bodies we are not at home with the Lord. For we live by believing and not by seeing. ~ 2 Corinthians 5:6-7 (NLT)
KEY THOUGHT:
We live our lives in a way which reflects our faith that God wants to be with us.
PRAYER:
Gracious God, thank you for making a way for us to be with you. You do this even though people like me are content to deal with life on our own. As I veer off the way keep nudging me back onto the pathway of faith. Even though I can't see very far ahead I am going to trust you, Lord, to bring me home to you. Amen.
I am the Lord, and I show mercy and kindness to anyone I choose. Exodus 33:19 (CEV)
There’s no distinction. All have sinned and fall short of God’s glory, but all are treated as righteous freely by his grace because of a ransom that was paid by Christ Jesus. Romans 3:22-24 (CEB)
KEY IDEA:
God chooses to be gracious to whomever he wants and he chooses everyone.
PRAYER:
Lord God, creator and sustainer of all. Thank you for sending your Son Jesus to ransom us from the dark forces of the universe. Those rogue forces were not originally a part of creation. Forgive me for allowing my life to align with the defeated darkness. Pour out your grace so that I can continue to grow in my faith. I am going to allow that grace to realign my life. Amen.
The 12th Sunday after Pentecost
Thank the God of all gods,
His love never quits.
Thank the Lord of all lords.
His love never quits. ~ Psalm 136:3-4 9 (MSG)
Thank God for his gift that words can’t describe! ~ 2 Corinthians 9:15 (CEB)
KEY IDEA:
God's indescribable love gift goes on and on and on and...
PRAYER:
Thank you, Lord, for your unending love. I can't even describe it. Usually, I don't try, though, because I don't think enough about your love. I don't factor it into everything I think, do, and say. Please give me some practical guidance in being thankful. I'm going to live and breath by your love. Amen.
The Lord made heaven and earth,
and he is the one
who sends us help. ~ Psalm 124:8 (CEV)
Your Father knows what you need before you ask. ~ Matthew 6:8 (CEV)
KEY IDEA:
Count on God.
PRAYER:
God, thank you for being Mr Reliable. I have been let down by so many people that I find it difficult to trust. I want to be in control of everything myself. But then I find out how unreliable I am. Forgive me for not trusting you with all my problems. Help me to trust. I am going to relax, knowing that you are the most capable help there is. Amen.
*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS
The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul. The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
