Justice and fairness

But let justice and fairness flow like a river that never runs dry. ~ Amos 5:24 (CEV)

But Jesus called the disciples together and said: You know that those foreigners who call themselves kings like to order their people around. And their great leaders have full power over the people they rule. But don’t act like them. If you want to be great, you must be the servant of all the others. ~ Mark 10:42-43 (CEV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus' followers make justice and fairness a high priority.
PRAYER:
Thank you, God, for treating me so well. Treating others well is not always a high priority for me. I get so wrapped up in myself and my problems that I forget or lose focus. Help me to become the servant of all -- especially those who have been treated poorly. I'm going to become great in YOUR kingdom. Amen.

Lve and Security

The evil of bad people leaves them out in the cold; the integrity of good people creates a safe place for living. ~ Proverbs 14:32 (MSG)

I’m convinced that nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ Jesus our Lord: not death or life, not angels or rulers, not present things or future things, not powers or height or depth, or any other thing that is created. ~ Romans 8:38-39 (CEB)

KEY THOUGHT:
We're in a safe place when we locate next to Christ Jesus.
PRAYER:
Thank you for you protection, God. I am totally safe when I'm near you. Forgive me for straying-- wandering from the safety of your presence. Keep reminding me of the safety of your love. I'm going to look to you for love and security. Amen.

Perspective

God is the one who gives me with strength. ~ Psalm 18:32 (ABP)

Paul writes to Philemon: Every time your name comes up in my prayers, I say, “Oh, thank you, God!” ~ Philemon 4:6 (MSG)

KEY THOUGHT:
God is the one behind all the action.
PRAYER:
Thank you, God, for giving me health and strength to do what needs to be done. Forgive me for the times I think that everything is resting on my shoulders. Grant me eternal perspective so that my prayers are primarily about being thankful for what YOU are doing. Amen.

God is relliable

Let your unfailing love surround us, Lord, for our hope is in you alone. ~ Psalm 33:22 (NLT)

Let’s hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, because the one who made the promises is reliable. ~ Hebrews 10:23 (CEB)

KEY THOUGHT:
Keep on trusting God for he is reliable.
PRAYER:
Lord, it is really discouraging to have so many unreliable and unfaithful people in positions of leadership. I'm sure that has often been the case throughout history. But I'm having to deal with them now. And it pains me. I know that you are reliable but in the moment I get anxious for us. Help me to trust you. I want to be a witness to your faithfulness. Amen.

DAILYTEXTS.ORG

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
