Creating hope

Don’t you know anything? Haven’t you been listening? God doesn’t come and go. God lasts. He’s Creator of all you can see or imagine. He doesn’t get tired out, doesn’t pause to catch his breath. And he knows everything, inside and out. ~ Isaiah 40:28 (MSG)

Oh! May the God of green hope fill you up with joy, fill you up with peace, so that your believing lives, filled with the life-giving energy of the Holy Spirit, will brim over with hope! ~ Romans 15:13(MSG)

KEY THOUGHT:
Perk up! The Creator continues to create life in and around us.
PRAYER:
Creator God, thank you for your steady involvement in the world. At times I give in to despair and act as though you have forgotten us. Fill me with a fresh infusion of Hoy Spirit energy so that I am overflowing with hope. Amen.

God alone

People with a big head are headed for a fall, pretentious egos brought down a peg. It’s God alone at front-and-center on the Day we’re talking about... ~ Isaiah 2:11 (MSG)

Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. ~ Galatians 6:7 (MSG)

KEY THOUGHT:
Don't be so arrogant as to think that you can outmaneuver God and come out ahead.
PRAYER:
God you are the chief justice. No one is above you or smarter than you. Sometimes I live as though I'm going to get my way and push through my own agenda in life. Save me from my own ego so that I'm ready for the day of accounting. Amen.

Rescued!

I said to myself,
“Relax and rest.
God has showered you with blessings.
Soul, you’ve been rescued from death;
Eye, you’ve been rescued from tears;
And you, Foot, were kept from stumbling.”
~ Psalm 116:7-8 (MSG)

By embracing death, taking it into himself, he (Jesus) destroyed the Devil’s hold on death and freed all who cower through life, scared to death of death. ~ Hebrews 2:15 (MSG)

KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus is the victor we can trust.
PRAYER:
Amazing Savior, you've not only conquered death but you have released us to live life. Thank you for looking out for me, even when I allow fear, unfounded as it is, to define how I functon. Help me to more fully trust you so that I am completely fearless. Amen.

Hold tightly

If you don’t take your stand in faith, you won’t have a leg to stand on. ~ Isaiah 7:9b (MSG)

Seize the eternal life, the life you were called to, the life you so fervently embraced in the presence of so many witnesses. ~ 1 Timothy 6:12 (MSG)

KEY THOUGHTS:
Hold tightly to the life which God gave you.
PRAYERS:
Thank you, God, for calling me to live out eternal life. Forgive me for allowing lesser things to divert my energy. Prop me up so that I am standing firm. I want to stand without buckling. Amen.

DAILYTEXTS.ORG

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
