The blind will see,
and the ears of the deaf
will be healed. ~ Isaiah 35:5 (CEV)
Those who were blind are able to see. Those who were crippled are walking. People with skin diseases are cleansed. Those who were deaf now hear. Those who were dead are raised up. The poor have good news proclaimed to them. ~ Matthew 11:5 (CEB)
KEY THOUGHT:
Jesus is the healing presence of God.
PRAYER:
Dear God, I'm grateful that you are interested in more than just getting people to heaven. Show me how I can participate in the healing that you are doing. I want to become a part of your mission to lift people out of their suffering. Amen.
So it’s paramount that you keep the commandments of God, your God, walk down the roads he shows you and reverently respect him. ~ Deuteronomy 8:6 (MSG)
But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you. ~ 2 Timothy 3:14 (NLT)
KEY THOUGHT:
Stay true to the good news message that the apostles and prophets originally delivered.
PRAYER:
Thank you, God, for your message. I confess that I am not conistent in the way that I apply your directions. My attention is short and sporadic. But for some reason you remain true to your word and you continue to love me. Help me to more consistently embrace your message so that my life brings honor to you. Amen.
All of you worship the Lord,
so you must trust him
to help and protect you. ~ Psalm 115:11 (CEV)
My prayer is that light will flood your hearts and that you will understand the hope that was given to you when God chose you. Then you will discover the glorious blessings that will be yours together with all of God’s people. ~ Ephesians 1:18 (CEV)
KEY THOUGHT:
Put your hope in the Lord.
PRAYER:
Lord, thank you for Jesus, who is the one to whom I have hitched my hope. I confess to being discouraged by all the negativity around me. Flood my heart again with the light of your hope. Encourage me. I'm going to trust that Jesus is going to protect me and make all things right. Amen.
Don’t punish me, Lord,
or even correct me
when you are angry! ~ Psalm 6:1 (NCV)
For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out his anger on us. ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:9 (NLT)
KEY THOUGHT:
God isn't angry.
PRAYER:
Thank you, Lord God, for your unending love. I confess that my tendency is to relate to you as an angry being to be feared. Save me from my warped theology and help me to more fully embrace the salvation that flows from your love. I'm going to focus on all that Christ has done and is doing. Amen.
*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS
The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul. The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
