God is on your side

Don’t chase me away from you or take your Holy Spirit away from me. ~ Psalm 51:11 (CEV)

Our prayers for you are always spilling over into thanksgivings. We can’t quit thanking God our Father and Jesus our Messiah for you!.. God rescued us from dead-end alleys and dark dungeons. He’s set us up in the kingdom of the Son he loves so much... ~ Colossians 1:3,13 (MSG)

SUMMARY SENTENCE:
God is on our side.
PRAYER:
Thank you, God, for standing by my side even when I flake out and wander into dark places. Yet, you protect me even then. Stabilize me so that I more consciously live in your love. I'm going to be on your side. Amen.

Stop worrying

God answered Moses, “So, do you think I can’t take care of you? You’ll see soon enough whether what I say happens for you or not.” ~ Numbers 11:23 (MSG)

Why worry about clothes? Look how the wild flowers grow. They don’t work hard to make their clothes. But I tell you that Solomon with all his wealth wasn’t as well clothed as one of them... Don’t worry and ask yourselves, “Will we have anything to eat? Will we have anything to drink? Will we have any clothes to wear?” ~ Matthew 6:28-29,31 (CEV)

SUMMARY SENTENCE:
God will take care of things, so stop worrying.
PRAYER:
Thank you, God, for taking good care of me up to this point. I know that you will take care of me again but for some reason I can't turn off the worry. The ongoing pandemic, my health issues, the political chaos and disappointment, the trouble with the economy and how that will affect my finances... Reassure me again so that I can let go of the worries and live fully in the gift of this moment. I'm going to meditate on these verses for awhile. Amen.

God is good

No doubt about it! God is good— good to good people, good to the good-hearted. ~ Psalm 73:1 (MSG)

And friends, once that’s taken care of and we’re no longer accusing or condemning ourselves, we’re bold and free before God! We’re able to stretch our hands out and receive what we asked for because we’re doing what he said, doing what pleases him. ~ 1 John 3:21-22 (MSG)

SUMMARY SENTENCE:
We should approach God expecting him to display his goodness.
PRAYER:
Generous Heavenly Father, no doubt about it -- you're good. I confess that even though I've seen and experienced your goodness, I am guarded and hesitant to expect too much from you. Perhaps that's because I'm so used to asking for things which are inconsistent with your goodness. Grant me the wisdom to ask appropriately and the faith to trust in your goodness. No doubt about it -- you're good. Amen.

Refuel

Work hard at whatever you do. ~ Ecclesiastes 9:10 (CEV)

Don’t burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Be alert servants of the Master, cheerfully expectant. ~ Romans 12:11 (MSG)

SUMMARY SENTENCE:
Continue to pour your entire God-energized self into serving the Lord.
PRAYER:
Lord God, thank you for calling me into your service. I confess that I get tired and burned out because I'm tapping into my personal resources rather than into the energy flowing from your Holy Spirit. Show me how to recharge through what you are offering and how to ignore the demands that want my energy rather than yours. I'm going to pour myself into serving while exercising holy indifference. Amen.

DAILYTEXTS.ORG

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
