GOD GUIDES

ISAIAH 29:24 (MSG)
Those who got off-track will get back on-track,
and complainers and whiners will learn gratitude.

JAMES 1:5 (NTE)
If any one of you falls short in wisdom, they should ask God for it, and it will be given them. God, after all, gives generously and ungrudgingly to all people.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
God will gently guide all who ask for guidance.

PRAYER
Generous God, thank you for sharing wisdom with all who ask. I confess that I am so busy doing my thing that I forget to ask. I'm not as open to guidance as I pretend to be. So I am asking you to intervene -- to guide my life -- fill me with your wisdom. I'm going to keep asking, in Jesus' name. Amen.

REDEVELOPMENT

JEREMIAH 23:29 (CEB)
Isn’t my word like fire
and like a hammer that shatters rock?
declares the LORD.

LUKE 12:49 (MSG)
I’ve come to start a fire on this earth—how I wish it were blazing right now!

SUMMARY SENTENCE
God is in the midst of a major world-wide redevelopment plan, which he is carrying out through Christ Jesus.

PRAYER
Word of life, where am I without you? Hardened by life's trials is where I am. I give you my whole being. Break me open. Soften me. Burn away resistance and cleanse me for love's purposes. Refined by your love; let love flow always and in all ways to others. Amen. (Daily Texts, Ground Up Grace edition)

HUMILITY AND JUSTICE

JEREMIAH 30:11 (CEV)
Then I will bring you
and your descendants
back to your land,
where I will protect you
and give you peace.
Then your fears will be gone.
I, the Lord, have spoken.

1 PETER 5:6 (CEV)
Be humble in the presence of God’s mighty power, and he will honor you when the time comes.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Live a humble life, trusting that at the right time God's justice will prevail.

PRAYER
Thank you, God, for the good word. I confess, though, that I get impatient and try to force my ideas about fairness and justice on those around me. At times I can become quite the zealot. Help me to relax in the knowledge that you have your timing and that you'll make things right. I'm going to step back and let your power take the front stage. Amen.

GRACE

JEREMIAH 2:29 (NLT)
"Why do you accuse me of doing wrong?
You are the ones who have rebelled,”
says the LORD.

ROMANS 3:23-24 (CEV)
All of us have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. But God treats us much better than we deserve, and because of Christ Jesus, he freely accepts us and sets us free from our sins.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Through the actions of Christ, God treats us better than we deserve.

PRAYER
I'm grateful today, God, for the gift of salvation that comes to us through Christ Jesus. I confess that sometimes I feel and act like I'm entitled to your attention, when in fact I'm as rebellious as the rest. Help me to begin to grasp the expanse of your grace. I'm going to live by grace. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
