SHINE!

Let your hope make you glad. Be patient in time of trouble and never stop praying.

Let your view of the Lord guide you through the rough times.

PRAYER
Lord God, you are the light of our lives -- not just when things are going right. You seem to shine the brightest during the darkest of times. I know that I'm prone to misstep and fall during dark times. I get anxious and do things that I eventually realize are not wise. Help me to fix my eyes on you rather than the dark around me. Because of you, I'm going to shine. Amen.

ADVERSITY

ISAIAH 48:10 (MSG)
Do you see what I’ve done?
I’ve refined you, but not without fire.
I’ve tested you like silver in the furnace of affliction.


LUKE 6:22-23 (ABP)
Consider yourself blessed when people push back against you because you follow me. You'll be characterized as evil, the brunt of their jokes, the object of their cursing, and even the victims of their hate. When that happens, be happy and jump for joy, for a great reward is in the heavenly pipeline flowing your direction.

Let the hard times bless you rather than drag you down.

PRAYER

Loving God, I know that you are looking for ways to bless us -- even through adversity. I confess that I have neglected to identify the hard times with the blessings you are pouring out. I get so distracted that I'm not able to see what you're doing in my life. Give me strength to endure and eyes to see the good that you are accomplishing through the not-so-good times. I'm going to honor you through both the good and the bad times. Amen.

GOOD NEWS

GENESIS 9:9-11 (MSG)
Then God spoke to Noah and his sons: “I’m setting up my covenant with you including your children who will come after you, along with everything alive around you—birds, farm animals, wild animals—that came out of the ship with you. I’m setting up my covenant with you that never again will everything living be destroyed by floodwaters; no, never again will a flood destroy the Earth.”

COLOSSIANS 1:23 (CEV)
You must not give up the hope you received when you heard the good news. It was preached to everyone on earth...

Maintain the hope that is yours through the merciful good news of Christ Jesus.

PRAYER
Good God, your good news fills us with hope. We know that through Christ you poured out your mercy on the whole world. But what I know and how I live are often different. Help me to fix my hope firmly in the good news and nothing else. I'm going to live by your good news and spread it around to everyone within earshot. Amen.

THE WAY TO GO

Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ’s love for us? There is no way!

Walking with Christ is a secure and safe way to go.

PRAYER
Faithful Lord, thank you for holding me up during these unsteady days. The reality of nearly falling over has corrected my ways. Guide me, that I might step out with trust instead of fretting and complaining. I reach for your hand today and pray that I may be your hands for those around me. Amen. The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.
