RIGHTEOUSNESS AND PEACE

ISAIAH 60:17 (MSG)
I’ll install Peace to run your country,
make Righteousness your boss.

ROMANS 14:17 (CEB)
God’s kingdom isn’t about eating food and drinking but about righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
As God sees it, the things which are important involve making peace and acting with righteousness.

PRAYER
By nature, O God, you are joyful -- finding meaning in acts of peace and righteousness. I confess that I try to find joy in milking life for all I can get. Yes, I'm all for peace and right living -- as long as those things bring short-term benefit. Forgive me for my short-sightedness. Give me a passion for all that stirs you -- for peace-making, for personal and corporate righteousness. I'm going to live in the joy of the Holy Spirit that comes as we follow Jesus, living out the things which are important to you. Amen.

THE MORNING

PSALM 143:8 (NLT)
Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning,
for I am trusting you.

MARK 1:35 (CEB)
Early in the morning, well before sunrise, Jesus rose and went to a deserted place where he could be alone in prayer.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Each morning is a new opportunity to look toward the Lord.

PRAYER
Thank you, God, for each new morning given to be with you. I confess that my life still has too much rush and distraction -- so many things that need doing. Help me to set everything aside so that I can focus on starting each morning with you. And then I'll be able to walk with you through the rest of the day and into the night. Amen.

PURSUE PEACE

The Second Sunday after Pentecost

PROVERBS 12:20 (ABP)
Plant peace-seeds, harvest joy.

MATTHEW 5:9 (NTE)
Blessings on the peacemakers! You’ll be called God’s children.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
We're blessed with joy when we pursue peace.

PRAYER
Prince of peace, you break down barriers between people. Thank you that you yourself are our peace. You call me to be a peacemaker. Discord and unrest make me feel anxious and insecure. Show me how to look past differences and seek unity. With your spirit's guidance, let me promote peace and brotherhood in Christ. Amen. (Daily Texts, Ground Up Grace edition)

MERCIFUL PROMISE-KEEPER

PSALM 106:44-45 (CEV)
You answered their prayers
when they were in trouble.
You kept your agreement
and were so merciful...

LUKE 1:54-55 (CEV)
He helps his servant Israel
and is always merciful
to his people.
The Lord made this promise
to our ancestors,
to Abraham and his family
forever!

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Trust God's mercy, for he always keeps his promises.

PRAYER
Faithful God, thank you for making and keeping promises. I confess that I am less than faithful to you. Even when I want to live right I still mess up. Please keep your promise to be merciful to all who turn to you. I turn to you, trusting in your mercy as it was fully expressed through Christ Jesus. Amen.

DAILYTEXTS.ORG

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
