SAVED BY GRACE

ZECHARIAH 3:4 (CEV)
This means you are forgiven. Now I will dress you in priestly clothes.

EPHESIANS 2:5 (CEB)
You are saved by God’s grace!

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Because he is merciful God chooses to forgive us and graciously give us fresh starts.

PRAYER
Thank you, gracious God, for forgiving me of all in my life that is unacceptable to you. I am grateful for the reset button that Christ pushed for us when he conquered death. Help me to organize my life around this good news -- and to extend the same grace to others through my own actions, attitudes, and words. I'm going to live with the awareness that I am saved by your grace. Amen.

KEEP PRAYING

PSALM 66:20 (CEB)
Bless God! He didn’t reject my prayer;
he didn’t withhold his faithful love from me.

COLOSSIANS 4:2 (ABP)
Keep on praying -- with focus and gratitude.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
When it comes to prayer, don't be a slacker.

PRAYER
Thank you, God, for your eagerness to talk with us. You have the time and energy for me. I, on the other hand, can become quite lazy and unfocused. I use that as an excuse to skip praying. Help me to maintain contact with you -- even if my prayers are disjointed and shallow. Even if my prayers are sloppy I know that your love is unrelenting and attentive. Amen.

STICK TO IT

LAMENTATIONS 3:25 (CEB)
The Lord is good to those who hope in him, to the person who seeks him.

HEBREWS 10:35 (MSG)
It’s still a sure thing! But you need to stick it out, staying with God’s plan so you’ll be there for the promised completion.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
You'll not be sorry if you stick with God and his plan.

PRAYER
Good and gracious God, you repeatedly show how you work things together for good. I am sorry I get impatient when I don't know what to do or a door closes on my plans. Help me to wait in quietness and trust. I am confident you will fulfill your plans and purposes for me. Amen. (Daily Texts, Ground Up Grace edition)

TURN TO THE LORD

The Third Sunday after Pentecost

PSALM 13:6 (CEB)
Yes, I will sing to the LORD
because he has been good to me.

JAMES 5:13 (CEV)
If you are having trouble, you should pray. And if you are feeling good, you should sing praises.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Regardless of the circumstances turn to the Lord in song.

PRAYER
Merciful God, receive these words as a song of praise, for you have been exceedingly good to me. Your faithfulness is beyond measure. Sometimes, though, when things aren't going well I turn inward and wallow in pity rather than turning to you in prayer. Reorient my life so that regardless of the circumstances I'm turning to you. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
