LIKE FAMILY

GENESIS 13:8 (MSG)
Abram said to Lot, "Let’s not have fighting between us, between your shepherds and my shepherds. After all, we’re family."

ROMANS 12:10 (NTE)

Be truly affectionate in showing love for one another; compete with each other in giving mutual respect.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Treat one another like family.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank you for welcoming me into your family through Christ. I admit that I'm still a bit childish in the way that I treat my Christian siblings and I'm even less mature in how I treat people outside the family. Plant your heart in me so that I am treating others with love and great respect -- even when they don't live up to their calling. Because of my connection with Christ Jesus I am going to lead the way in honoring others. Amen.

ALL PEOPLES

The Seventh Sunday after Pentecost

ISAIAH 56:7 (ABP)
My house will be the go-to place of worship for people from everywhere and every group.

COLOSSIANS 3:11 (NLT)
In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
In the new social order that Christ is establishing all the old constructs are obsolete.

PRAYER
Thank you, God, for the new order that you are establishing in Christ. I admit that I still look at people in an outdated way. Help me to grow out of the old way of thinking. I'm eager to embrace all peoples through the grace of Christ. Amen.

THANKFULNESS

PSALM 106:1 (ABP)
All honor be to GOD! Thank him because he's good and his unrestrained love has no end.

COLOSSIANS 3:17 (NLT)
And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Let thankfulness to God characterize your life -- everything you say and do.

PRAYER
God, I don't say it enough but thank you for being who you are and including me in your circle of friends. Help me to become more expressive so that I may more completely represent Christ Jesus. I want everything I do and say to become an expression of gratitude. Amen

PRODUCE

PSALM 103:8 (ABP)
GOD is compassionate and merciful,
super patient, and full of unwavering love.

GALATIANS 5:22-23 (CEB)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Let God reproduce his characteristics in you.

PRAYER
God, you are full of all that gives life. There is not an ounce of negative in you. Yet, while I admire your qualities I am slow to allow you to replicate them in my life. Keep me close to yourself so that I grow to resemble you. I'm going to rethink what it is that I want out of life and realign my goals so that your life grows through me. Amen.

DAILYTEXTS.ORG

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
