1 SAMUEL 26:4 (CEB)
...may the LORD consider my life valuable, and may he deliver me from all trouble.
ACTS 23:11
That night the Master appeared to Paul: “It’s going to be all right. Everything is going to turn out for the best. You’ve been a good witness for me here in Jerusalem. Now you’re going to be my witness in Rome!”
SUMMARY SENTENCE
With God in charge, everything ultimately turns out for the best.
PRAYER
Sovereign God, I'm grateful that you are in charge and that I don't need to worry over the outcomes of troubling times. I admit that I still worry. Help me to let go of the sense that everything depends on me. I want to trust you for the outcomes. You have a great track record. Amen.

HUMILITY
JOB 21:22 (MSG)
But who are we to tell God how to run his affairs?
He’s dealing with matters that are way over our heads.
ROMANS 12:16 (CEB)
Consider everyone as equal, and don’t think that you’re better than anyone else. Instead, associate with people who have no status. Don’t think that you’re so smart.
SUMMARY SENTENCE
If you embrace God, you will also embrace humility.
PRAYER
Thank you, God, for embodying humility through the Son who stepped down to live and die among us so that together we might experience his resurrection. All the important things in life are fueled by humility. I confess, though, that I'm still inclined to do whatever it takes to protect my territory -- including huffing and strutting as though I'm some VIP. Show me a new way of getting life done -- a new way that is fully in line with the Jesus way. I'm going to pour my energy into elevating others instead of defending my own position. Amen.

GOD ALL-WISE
ISAIAH 11:2 (CEV)
The Spirit of the Lord
will be with him
to give him understanding,
wisdom, and insight.
He will be powerful,
and he will know
and honor the Lord.
LUKE 20:26 (NTE)
They couldn’t catch Jesus in anything he said in front of the people. They were amazed at his answer, and had nothing more to say.
SUMMARY SENTENCE
Relax! Jesus has the wisdom to defeat those who oppose him and his way.
PRAYER
God, you are all-powerful and all-wise. That doesn't stop me from worrying over the problems in my life and in the world. Redirect my gaze so that I can see and trust in your ability to wisely respond to the trouble that is all around us. I'm going to trust you no matter what. Amen.

THE POWERFUL
The Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost
ISAIAH 25:5 (MSG)
Lord, you shut the mouths of the big-mouthed bullies.
LUKE 1:51-52 (CEV)
The Lord has used
his powerful arm
to scatter those
who are proud.
He drags strong rulers
from their thrones
and puts humble people
in places of power.

PRAYER
Lord, thank you for sending Jesus into the world to serve us as a humble Savior. Forgive me for embracing the world's view that might is right. Help me to realign my life with you and your approach to leadership. I'm going to find a way to serve among the less-powerful. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS
The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.
The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
