LIGHT

PSALM 104:1-2 (CEB)
LORD my God, how fantastic you are!
You are clothed in glory and grandeur!
You wear light like a robe...

1 PETER 2:9 (CEV)
God has brought you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Now you must tell all the wonderful things he has done.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
We're called to live lives defined by the light of Christ.

PRAYER
God, you've done a great thing by shining your stunning light into our lives. I confess that I'm not used to so much light and occasionally retreat into the darkness, where I've spent so much time in the past. Help me to adjust so that I can go about living and telling of your glory and grandeur. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name; your Kingdom come; your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

GOD CARES

EXODUS 23:25 (ABP)
If you devote yourselves to serving GOD, you can expect him to bless even the simple elements -- your bread and your water.

MATTHEW 6:31-32 (ABP)
Stop worrying over what you're going to eat, what you're going to drink, or what you're going to wear... God, your heavenly father, knows exactly what you need and he will provide.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Trust God to take care of you.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, you've promised to take care of us. But I worry a lot about every little thing. It makes me feel like my future somehow hinges on my energy output. Relieve me of all worries so that I can fully trust in your care and provision.

Amen.

PROTECTION

PSALM 121:8 (CEB)
The LORD will protect you on your journeys—
whether going or coming—
from now until forever from now.

2 THESSALONIANS 3:3 (CEB)
The Lord is faithful and will give you strength and protect you from the evil one.

SUMMARY SETENCE
Trust God to protect you.

PRAYER
God, I trust in your protective care. I've experienced it through numerous difficulties in my life. Yet, I'm worried for the people in places like Ukraine, where there is lots of violence. Are you protecting people there, too? Help me to trust that you are working that out and that you care more about the people there than I can possibly care. Your compassion and faithfulness capacity is far greater. I'm going to continue to trust in your protection.

Amen.

GOD-PRESENT

PSALM 127:1 (ABP)
It's useless to have the most powerful, well-equipped, professionally-trained army guarding the city if GOD isn't on watch.

PHILIPPIANS 1:6 (ABP)
Without a doubt, the one who started his good work among you all will be the one who carries you through until the assignment is completed on the day when Christ Jesus wraps things up.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
God-present is the only way that anything of significance gets done.

PRAYER
Faithful God, you're always on watch -- keeping an eye out for us and keeping us on task. Thank you. Forgive me for trying to accomplish things on my own. Help me to notice your presence so that I can find my place in line beside you. I'm excited that I get to do your business -- with you.

Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
