REST AND PEACE

1 KINGS 8:56 (ABP)
Praise God! This restful era of peace demonstrates that he keeps his promises.

HEBREWS 4:9 (NLT)
So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Eventually, God's peace wins out and we'll enter into the era of eternal rest.

PRAYER
Prince of Peace, thank you for the moments of peace which point us toward what's coming. I admit that I get caught up in the anxiety of the moment and lose sight of what's to come. Help me to experience your peace right now as the down-payment on the rest for which I long. I'm going to allow you to transform me into an agent of Christ's peace. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name; your Kingdom come; your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

TROUBLES

EZEKIEL 16:61,63 (CEV)
When you think about how you acted, you will be ashamed... I will forgive you, but you will think about your sins and be too ashamed to say a word. I, the Lord God, have spoken.

2 CORINTHIANS 7:10 (CEV)
Distress that drives us to God does that. It turns us around. It gets us back in the way of salvation. We never regret that kind of pain. But those who let distress drive them away from God are full of regrets, end up on a deathbed of regrets.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Let your troubles drive you closer to God.

PRAYER
Thank you, God, for steering me in the right direction. I admit that I allow the troubles I experience to get to me. Please give me divine insights that will free me to trust you in the midst of the stressful times. I want to allow the difficulties to strengthen my faith rather than drive me away.

Amen.

RENEWAL

PSALM 119:114 (MSG)
You’re my place of quiet retreat;
I wait for your Word to renew me.

MATTHEW 8:8 (CEV)
But the officer said, "Lord, I'm not good enough for you to come into my house. Just give the order, and my servant will get well."

SUMMARY SENTENCE
A word from God is all it takes to renew our lives.

PRAYER
Creator God, you spoke and at your command creation came into existence. Forgive me for doubting the power of your word to change everything in a mere fraction of a second. Speak into my life and renew me so that I can be a part of your renewed creation.

Amen.

PROTECTION

PSALM 34:7 (ABP)
The Lord assigns a protective angel to watch over those who live to honor him. The body guard will beat back all attackers.

ACTS 12:7 (CEB)
Suddenly an angel from the Lord appeared and a light shone in the prison cell. After nudging Peter on his side to awaken him, the angel raised him up and said, “Quick! Get up!” The chains fell from his wrists.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
God has us in his witness protection program.

PRAYER
Thank you, God, for watching over us and assigning your best agents to our protective detail. Forgive me for worrying over the details of my situation, as though you had anandoned me. Help me to trust your angels as you lead me to freedom. I'm going to respond to the nudging of your messenger.

Amen.

DAILYTEXTS.ORG

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
