DEPENDABLE GOD

PSALM 40:11 (ABP)
GOD, don’t hold back any of your compassion from me. Unleash your unfailing love and faithfulness to protect me.

1 THESSALONIANS 5:24 (MSG)
The One who called you is completely dependable. If he said it, he’ll do it!

SUMMARY SENTENCE
God is your dependable soul guard.

PRAYER
God, you are completely dependable. Your faithfulness is unwavering. Why then does my faith waver so much? I need you to stabilize me. Steady my trembling hands and wrap your comforting arms around me -- especially when I'm feeling overwhelmed. I'm going to relax in your faithfulness. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

SING

PSALM 96:2 (NCV)
Sing to the LORD and praise his name;
every day tell how he saves us.

COLOSSIANS 3:16 (NCV)
Use all wisdom to teach and instruct each other by singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Allow the rich music of the church to have a role in shaping your life.

PRAYER
Thank you, God, for the music! I confess that I'm more of an observer than a participant when it comes to music. I don't think my voice is very good. Show me how I can use music to influence others toward you and stir up gratitude within me. Even though music isn't my strongest gift I'm not going to worry about how I sound and I'm going to sing.

Amen.

RESCUE

PSALM 55:16 (NLT)
I will call on God,
and the LORD will rescue me.

2 CORINTHIANS 1:10-11 (ABP)
We confidently expect God to rescue us again since you, our friends, are helping us through your prayers.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Have confidence that God will provide the rescue you need when you need it.

PRAYER
Savior God, we can count on you. Forgive me for panicking when trouble comes my way. In my floundering about I end up pushing you away. I'm so grateful that you stick with me anyway. Help me to relax and receive your rescue. I'm going to trust you.

Amen.

EXPERIENCING FREEDOM

PSALM 119:45 (ABP)
I'll be free to go anywhere -- for I've absorbed your instruction into my life.

ROMANS 8:37 (CEV)
In everything we have won more than a victory because of Christ who loves us.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Because of what Christ has done we can enjoy true freedom in our lives.

PRAYER
God, because you are generous we have freedom. You defeated the forces of slavery at the cross and in your resurrection you've opened the prison doors. Even when we face difficulties we are free! Yet, my feelings don't always match up with reality. At times I feel overwhelmed by what's happening in the world and in my life. Restore my confidence -- please! I'm going to allow your word to guide me to go where I've not yet gone.

Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
