AT YOUR COMMAND

JOSHUA 5:14 (ABP)
When Joshua encountered the commander of GOD’s heavenly army he dropped to his knees and bowed to the ground in respect. “I'm your servant and at your command,” he said.

LUKE 22:41-43 (CEV)
Jesus walked on a little way before he knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you will, please don't make me suffer by drinking from this cup. But do what you want, and not what I want.”
Then an angel from heaven came to help him.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
The only way to align ourselves with what God is doing is to set aside our own personal agendas.

PRAYER
Glorious God, I honor you as the commander and chief. In offering my allegiance to you I acknowledge all that you have done for us -- for me. At the same time, I confess that I'm a sinner with an agenda that is not always aligned with yours. Help me to set my plans and aspirations aside so that I can better serve you. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

SALVATION

ISAIAH 52:9 (ABP)
GOD has comforted his people. He has rescued you!

1 JOHN 2:8 (CEV)
You can see the darkness fading away and the true light already shining.

SUMMARY SENTENCE

Through Christ, God is already shutting down the darkness which has been stalking you.

PRAYER
God, the good news is that your salvation for the world is a done deal. The remnants of darkness don't stand a chance. Even so, I confess to feeding the darkness machine with my attention and energy. I allow it to overwhelm me at times. Help me to more fully grasp the completeness of your salvation and get on board with everything that you are doing. I'm going to move forward confident of your success.

Amen.

BY FAITH, TAKE A STAND

DANIEL 11:32 (CEB)
The people who acknowledge their God will stand strong and will act.

HEBREWS 11:24 (MSG)
By faith, Moses, when grown, refused the privileges of the Egyptian royal house.

SUMMARY SENTENCE

When faith is active in our lives we can take the necessary stand.

PRAYER
God, you are steady and strong. We can rely on you to do what needs to be done. Forgive us for our failure to do what needs to be done when we're not trusting you. Show me how to be bold and courageous. Encourage me with the stories of those who have by faith taken a stand. I am going to stand among them.

Amen.

START BELIEVING

JEREMIAH 31:18 (MSG)
Now put me, trained and obedient, to use.
   You are my GOD.

JOHN 20:27 (ABP)
Then Jesus said to Thomas, “Feel the wounds on my hands and in my side. Cancel your skepticism and start believing!”

SUMMARY SENTENCE

It's time to shift into gear and trust Jesus for where you're going.

PRAYER
God, you show up at just the right time with just the right information so that I can believe in you and what you're doing. Forgive my self-focused hesitation. I want to believe even more than I do now. That's my goal. Show me what that looks like in my life.

Amen.

DAILYTEXTS.ORG

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
