PSALM 30:5 (ABP)
While God's anger lasts but a fleeting second, his love and kindness last a lifetime. You may weep for a night but rest assured that joy comes with the dawn.
ROMANS 5:11 (NLT)
So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.
SUMMARY SENTENCE
God's relationship with us is our cause for celebration.
PRAYER
Loving God, it's mind-boggling that you would want to be friends with us. We let you down a lot and yet you persist in reaching out to us. I'm a flake but you are faithful. I pray that your kindness will change me so that I'm a better friend to you -- and everyone else. Because of what Christ has done I'm going to live as your friend. Amen.
THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

ENCOURAGE EACH OTHRR
HOSEA 14:9 (ABP)
Certainly, God's walkway is the right way. And right-living people stay on that path. However, those set on doing evil are unable to even stand on the path.
1 THESSALONIANS 5:11 (NLT)
So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.
SUMMARY SENTENCE
Put some energy into keeping each other on track.
PRAYER
Dear God, through Christ you have graciously set us on the right track. I confess, though, that I'm fairly blind to the needs of those who are trying to walk alongside me. And even when I am aware of their needs I end up pointing out their faults. Help me to get past the every man for himself mindset and to take responsibility to encourage my fellow travlers. Show me how to build others up so that we can complete the journey together. I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.

THE MESSIAH
JEREMIAH 31:31 (MSG)
The time is coming when I will make a brand-new covenant with Israel and Judah.
ROMANS 9:4-5 (HCSB)
They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the temple service, and the promises. The ancestors are theirs, and from them, by physical descent, came the Messiah, who is God over all, praised forever. Amen.
SUMMARY SENTENCE
All the covenant agreements that God made with his people lead to Jesus the Messiah.
PRAYER
Thank you, Lord, for the long rich process which set the stage for Jesus the Messiah. Forgive me for forgetting that history and the role that our Jewish siblings have played in leading the rest of us to faith. I pray for those who do not yet have a relationship with the Messiah, that they, too, might come to embrace him and his new covenant. I'm going to look for ways to honor them because I honor Jesus. Amen.

LOVING THE POOR AND MARGINALIZED
DEUTERONOMY 10:18-19 (ABP)
God makes sure that orphans and widows are treated justly. He shows his love for the foreigners who live among you by giving them food and clothing. In like manner, you should also demonstrate love toward the foreigners.
MATTHEW 25:35 (MSG)
Jesus: "I was homeless and you gave me a room."
SUMMARY SENTENCE
We should act in partnership with God, who is predisposed to love the poor and marginalized.
PRAYER
Compassionate God, thank you for looking kindly on me, a sinner saved by your grace. Forgive me for my failure to embrace your attitude toward the undeserving around me. Give me a heart for the marginalized and wisdom for the best ways to demonstrate your love for them. I'm going to partner with you as you extend compassion and justice to those who are ignored by everyone else. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS
The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.
The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
