LEVITICUS 22:31 (NLT)
You must faithfully keep all my commands by putting them into practice, for I am the Lord.
PHILIPPIANS 2:15-16 (ABP)
As you hold firmly to the life-giving message you'll shine out as lights canceling the darkness of the world.
SUMMARY SENTENCE
As we put God's life-giving message into practice we'll stand out in such a way that the world around us will be changed.
PRAYER
God, thank you for giving us your life-changing instructions. I confess, though, that I don't want my life to change too much. I'm too content with the way things are in my life to make a difference in the world. Speak to me through the Bible and give me a grander vision for life. I'm going to embrace your change. Amen.
THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

MESSENGERS
The 18th Sunday after Pentecost
DEUTERONOMY 18:18 (CEB)
I’ll raise up a prophet for them from among their fellow Israelites—one just like you. I’ll put my words in his mouth...
1 THESSALONIANS 2:4 (CEV)
God was pleased to trust us with his message. We didn't speak to please people, but to please God who knows our motives.
SUMMARY SENTENCE
God entrusts people with his message for people.
PRAYER
Jesus, you are the Living Word from God. As you did with the prophets of old, you have entrusted us with a message that points to you. I confess, though, that I worry more about what others think than what you want me to say. Redirect my attention so that I might become a faithful and reliable messenger of your good news. Amen.

PERSPECTIVE
ISAIAH 42:9 (MSG)
The earlier predictions of judgment have been fulfilled.
I’m announcing the new salvation work.
Before it bursts on the scene,
I’m telling you all about it.
MATTHEW 13:7 (NLT)
I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, but they didn’t see it. And they longed to hear what you hear, but they didn’t hear it.
SUMMARY SENTENCE
Treasure God's perspective.
PRAYER
Lord, hearing your voice and seeing your word unfold before my eyes is the greatest treasure -- thank you! I confess that I lose your perspective on things when I allow my circumstances to become my god -- forgive me! I long to see you in all things at all times. Help me to do the same for others. Amen. GOD'S RELATIONSHIP
PSALM 30:5 (ABP)
While God's anger lasts but a fleeting second, his love and kindness last a lifetime. You may weep for a night but rest assured that joy comes with the dawn.
ROMANS 5:11 (NLT)
So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.
SUMMARY SENTENCE
God's relationship with us is our cause for celebration.
PRAYER
Loving God, it's mind-boggling that you would want to be friends with us. We let you down a lot and yet you persist in reaching out to us. I'm a flake but you are faithful. I pray that your kindness will change me so that I'm a better friend to you -- and everyone else. Because of what Christ has done I'm going to live as your friend. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS
The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.
The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
