FOLLOWING

ISAIAH 37:16 (MSG)
GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies, enthroned over the cherubim-angels, you are God, the only God there is, God of all kingdoms on earth. You made heaven and earth.

EPHESIANS 3:14-16 (CEV)
I kneel in prayer to the Father. All beings in heaven and on earth receive their life from him. God is wonderful and glorious. I pray that his Spirit will make you become strong followers

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Since God is the source of our life we want to follow him so we can live a whole and complete life.

PRAYER
Ruler God, the source of all and ruler over all, we acknowledge that you are totally unique. Yet, we live as though sovereignty resides with us. We admire those who do things their own way. Turn us around so that we start to understand the value of following. I'm going to become a strong follower of Christ Jesus. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

A FRESH START

LAMENTATIONS 5:21 (ABP)
Please, God, accept us back! We're ready for things to be the way they were before.

TITUS 3:4-5 (CEV)
God our Savior showed us
how good and kind he is.
He saved us because
of his mercy,
and not because
of any good things
we have done.
God washed us by the power
of the Holy Spirit.
He gave us new birth
and a fresh beginning.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
God gives a fresh start to those who will accept it.

PRAYER
Gracious God, you are generous in granting second starts. You are merciful -- quick to forgive our sins, while you empower us for new lives. It's a great deal! Yet, we struggle to accept the fullness of your generosity -- falling back into defending the rightness of our thinking and actions. Help me to truly and completely turn to you as Savior and Lord. It's all about your mercy!

Amen.

GLORIOUS SURPRISES

ISAIAH 59:19 (ABP)
On that day, the people of the Western world will come to respect the name of GOD. And in the East, he will be honored.

LUKE 13:29-30 (NLT)
And people will come from all over the world—from east and west, north and south—to take their places in the Kingdom of God. And note this: Some who seem least important now will be the greatest then, and some who are the greatest now will be least important then.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
When God brings the world together, everyone will honor him in a movement led by some of the least likely.

PRAYER
Glorious God, I'm eager for the day when everyone will honor you for who you are and what you're about. I admit that I've got some strong ideas about what that will look like and who will be leading your parade. Start now massaging my expectations so that my ideas more accurately align with your reality. I'm going to enjoy the glorious surprises you have in store for the world.

Amen.

LIGHT ON

DEUTERONMY 26:15 (CEB)
Please look down from your holy home, from heaven itself, and bless your people Israel...

LUKE 2:30-32 (MSG)
Simeon said, "With my own eyes I’ve seen your salvation;
it’s now out in the open for everyone to see:
A God-revealing light to the non-Jewish nations,
and of glory for your people Israel."

SUMMARY SENTENCE
God's people are honored when God's salvation light is switched on for the rest of the people in the world.

PRAYER
Jesus, light of the world, your salvation benefits all those who will receive it. I pray that your light would not only shine into my life but through it, too. Even though I'm an inconsistent witness I want to improve so that your light is revealed through me to each person I encounter.

Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
