God's kingdom isn't about eating and drinking. It is about pleasing God, about living in peace, and about true happiness. All this comes from the Holy Spirit.

Being well-fed is wonderful but true happiness is a more developed gift from God.
PRAYER
God, I'm grateful for all the good things you provide. I'm well-fed and I have a lot of meaningful interaction in my life. Yet, I confess that I still get stuck pursuing shallow forms of happiness in lieu of mature joy. Redirect my energy and fill my life with your shalom so that in my contentment I'm truly happy. I want to become a person of great depth. Amen.

RIGHT PURSUIT

Happy are people who are hungry and thirsty for righteousness because they will be fed until they are full.
SUMMARY SENTENCE
The secret to having a great life is to pursue righteousness.
PRAYER
God, you are the great provider who delights in giving us full and wonderful lives. Forgive me for pursuing things that are inconsistent with what you in your wisdom offer. Help me to adjust my approach to life so that it is all about pursuing you and your idea of righteousness. This is my goal for life. Amen.

Jesus said to his apprentices, "Don't let the things that happen stress you out. As you are trusting God, trust me."

Trust God to deal with the challenges in your life by living with Jesus and following him.
PRAYER
Lord God, sometimes the problems I face feel overwhelming. I know that you are trustworthy and that you'll deal with them. But I intuitively step in and try to fix things in my own way. Help me to take a deep breath and relax knowing that you're on duty. Today I'm going to trust you with the following issues:

If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit -- but nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock.

Allow God to be your daily safe place.
PRAYER
God, you are solid! Nothing shakes you or throws you off foundation. And you are there for us when we need to be sheltered. Forgive me for allowing fear to replace your safety. I'm turning all my problems and challenges over to you and your care. You are my safe place today -- and tomorrow -- and the day after -- and... Amen.
