PSALM 51:11 (ABP)
Don't banish me from your presence or withdraw your spirit.
LUKE 18:13 (CEV)
The tax collector stood off at a distance and did not think he was good enough even to look up toward heaven. He was so sorry for what he had done that he pounded his chest and prayed, “God, have pity on me! I am such a sinner.”
SUMMARY SENTENCE
When dealing with God it is best to assume a humble posture.
PRAYER
I'm grateful, God, that you choose to hangout with me. It's hard to imagine that you find me to be good company. I continue to let you down in so many ways. All I can legitamtely say is "thank you." Amen.
THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

PATHWAYS
The Sixth Sunday after Epiphany
JOSHUA 22:5 (ABP)
Love GOD -- your God -- by walking through life along the pathways that he has estabished. Keep his rules of the road.
JOHN 12:26 (MSG)
"If any of you wants to serve me, then follow me. Then you’ll be where I am, ready to serve at a moment’s notice." -- Jesus
SUMMARY SENTENCE
If we're serious about living a godly life we'll follow Jesus along the ways that he is blazing and in that way be available to serve him.
PRAYER
Thank you, Jesus, for inviting us to join you along the pathway of life. I admit, though, that I like to trailblaze my own routes and go my own way. I miss out on your companionship and wisdom when I do that. Draw me back onto the path that you're blazing so that I can find my life's purpose in serving you. Amen.

PRISON
PSALM 142:7 (CEB)
Get me out of this prison
so I can give thanks to your name.
JOHN 8:36 (ABP)
So if the Son sets you free you will certainly be free from whatever imprisions you.
SUMMARY SENTENCE
Jesus is in the business of setting us free from whatever imprisons us.
PRAYER
Forgiving God, thank you for delivering me out of my personal prison and giving me the freedom that can only be found in Jesus. I give you praise and glory. Like a bird set free from its cage, I can fly on the wings of joy, knowing you have given me a new song to sing. Amen. (Daily Texts, Ground Up Grace edition)

FEET
ISAIAH 52:7 (MSG)
How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of the messenger bringing good news,
Breaking the news that all’s well,
proclaiming good times, announcing salvation,
telling Zion, “Your God reigns!”
EPHESIANS 6:15 (ERV)
On your feet wear the Good News of peace to help you stand strong.
SUMMARY SENTENCE
Your feet say a lot about your faith.
PRAYER
Merciful God, thank you for sending me on a good news mission. I admit that I often drag my feet along the way. It's not that I don't value your good news or the mission on which you've sent me. But I am easily distracted, especially when I get tired of running. Care for my feet so that I can stand strong as your messenger. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS
The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.
The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
