The world

Trinity Sunday

God issues his command to the earth— God’s word speeds off fast! ~ Psalm 147:15 (CEB)

You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. ~ Acts 1:8 (CEB)

KEY IDEA:
God's message is for the whole earth.
PRAYER:
Lord, thank you for loving the whole world so much that you sent your Son, Christ Jesus, into it to sacrifice his life in order to save ours. That really is good news to me. But I live in an insular world. My life revolves around the people on my island -- my family, my ancestors, my friends, my enemies... It's hard to move beyond that world. But you have given me an assignment to be a part of your worldwide witness. I'm not sure what that looks like for me but I am eager to be empowered by the Holy Spirit for that task. Amen.

Forward!

You are my Lord; all the good things I have come from you. ~ Psalm 16:2b (GNT)

I forget about the things behind me and reach out for the things ahead of me. The goal I pursue is the prize of God’s upward call in Christ Jesus. ~ Philippians 3:13b-14 (CEV)

KEY IDEA:
Our goal is to stretch forward into the good life that Christ calls us into.
PRAYER:
Lord, you are very generous. All the good things in my life come from you. Thank you. I confess that I look backward and focus on the bad things that have happened. I like to talk more about how I am a victim than about how you rescued me. I get more sympathy that way. So I need help to focus on the forward rather than dwelling on what is behind me. I am trusting you to reorient my life so that I can go after the reward that comes with living in Christ. Amen.

Sharing

They rejoice in what you have done, as people rejoice when they harvest grain... ~ Isaiah 9:3 (GNT)

All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had. ~ Acts 4:32 (NLT)

KEY IDEA:
God's people join together to share.
PRAYER:
Thank you, Lord, giving us enough to share with each other. Keep me connected to you and mindful of your generosity so that I can become generous, too. I'm slow to let go of what I have. But I am going to start by rejoicing in what you have done through Christ Jesus our Savior. Amen.

Celebrate healing

With all my heart I praise the Lord! I will never forget how kind he has been. The Lord forgives our sins, heals us when we are sick... ~ Psalm 103:2-3 (CEV)

The man went into the Temple with them, walking back and forth, dancing and praising God. ~ Acts 3:8 (MSG)

KEY IDEA:
When God makes us well again we celebrate.
PRAYER:
Lord, I praise you. I can't forget how kind you have been. Yet I do. Once I've been feeling better for awhile the memory slips to the back of my mind. Help me to keep the memory fresh. I want to walk, dance, and praise you every single day. Amen.

DAILYTEXTS.ORG

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2011 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
