Rescue

You are faithful, and I trust you because you rescued me. ~ Psalm 31:5 (CEV)

The Holy Spirit will give you life that comes from Christ Jesus and will set you free from sin and death. ~ Romans 8:2 (CEV)

KEY IDEA:
God is our rescuer.
PRAYER:
Lord, thank you for being such a faithful rescuer. I confess that even though I need rescue I am not always eager to be rescued. I enjoyed being the victim. Rescue me from myself so that I can live a faithful and healthy life for you. Amen.

Everything...

He is your praise, and he is your God... ~ Deuteronomy 10:21a (CEB)

Jesus Christ says, ‘I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.’ ~ Revelation 22:13

KEY IDEA:
Everything, from beginning to end, revolves around Jesus.
PRAYER:
Thank you, Jesus, for your involvement in the world and my life. You are the center of everything. Yet I tend to treat you like you are only in charge of a few things. I keep you in a box to be consulted on religious matters and mostly on Sundays. Open my eyes and my heart to your sovereignty over all. I am going to live a life that revolves around you and your agenda. Amen.

Nothing is hidden

The Fifth Sunday of Easter

God sees my ways and counts every step I take. ~ Job 31:4 (NCV)

Nothing is hidden from God! He sees through everything, and we will have to tell him the truth. ~ Hebrews 4:13 (CEV)

KEY IDEA:
Nothing is hidden from God.
PRAYER:
God, you know it all. I find a certain relief in this reminder. It's not that I think I can hide something from you. It's more that I don't even think about your personal awareness of my life. Help me to see how much you love me and are involved in the everyday affairs of my life. I'm going to live in an ongoing conversation with you. Amen.

Remember

After that generation died, another generation grew up who did not acknowledge the Lord or remember the mighty things he had done for Israel. ~ Judges 2:10 (NLT)

Remember Jesus Christ, who was raised from the dead and descended from David. This is my good news. ~ 2 Timothy 2:8 (CEB)

KEY IDEA:
Remember what Christ has done to live well.
PRAYER:
Dear God, thank you for the good news of Jesus' resurrection. I know that my wellbeing is rooted in my faithful remembrance of that key event. However, I tend to forget even important matters -- especially when I allow myself to get distracted. Renew my focus on the good news. I'm never going to foget. Amen.

DAILYTEXTS.ORG

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2011 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
