Not angry

Don’t punish me, Lord, or even correct me when you are angry! ~ Psalm 6:1 (NCV)

For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out his anger on us. ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:9 (NLT)

KEY THOUGHT:
God isn't angry.
PRAYER:
Thank you, Lord God, for your unending love. I confess that my tendency is to relate to you as an angry being to be feared. Save me from my warped theology and help me to more fully embrace the salvation that flows from your love. I'm going to focus on all that Christ has done and is doing. Amen.

Making right

Rest assured that justice is on its way and every good heart put right. ~ Psalm 94:15 (MSG)

...let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. ~ Matthew 5:16 (NLT)

KEY THOUGHT:
God will make all things right.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, you are worthy of our recognition. And I am grateful that through Christ you are making the world right again. Forgive me for allowing the trouble in the world to create doubt in me. Renew my trust in your justice so that I can be a point of light breaking through the dark chaos, directing people to you. Amen.

God responds to our needs

Thank you for responding to me; you’ve truly become my salvation! ~ Psalm 118:21 (MSG)

Jesus said to the woman, “You are now well because of your faith. May God give you peace! You are healed, and you will no longer be in pain.” ~ Mark 5:34 (CEV)

KEY THOUGHT:
God responds to our needs.
PRAYER:
Thank you, God, for paying attention to me and responding to my needs. Forgive me for failing to notice. I've allowed my neediness to become my identity and it's hard to let that go. Stick with me and I will eventually get it. Because of Jesus I'm going to experience health. Amen.

Turned around

I’m coming to save you. From now on, you’re the good-news people. Don’t be afraid. Keep a firm grip on what I’m doing. ~ Zechariah 8:13 (MSG)

[Paul said] I thank Christ Jesus our Lord. He has given me the strength for my work because he knew that he could trust me. I used to say terrible and insulting things about him, and I was cruel. But he had mercy on me... ~ 1 Timothy 1: 12-13a (CEV)

KEY THOUGHT:
Through Christ God turns people's lives around.
PRAYER:
Thank you, God, for intervening in my life. I still don't deserve your kind attention. Sometimes my faith is inconsistent. Please continue to change me so that I am fully aligned with you. Amen.

DAILYTEXTS.ORG

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2011 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
