SAVING GOD

PSALM 119:94 (MSG)
Save me! I’m all yours.

JOHN 15:7 (CEV)
Stay joined to me and let my teachings become part of you. Then you can pray for whatever you want, and your prayer will be answered.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
When you're connected to God through Christ you have asking-power.

PRAYER
Saving God, rescue me from misuse of wealth, heartless judgments, and ignorant discrimination. Grant me the desire to be steeped in your word and to abide with you in prayer. Teach me, Lord, to learn how to live more generously, lovingly, and inclusively. By loving others wholeheartedly, let my life glorify you. Amen. (Daily Texts, Ground Up Grace edition)

JOY ON THE JOURNEY

Epiphany

PSALM 84:12 (CEB)
LORD of heavenly forces,
those who trust in you are truly happy!

MATTHEW 2:10-12 (CEB)
When they saw the star, they were filled with joy. They entered the house and saw the child with Mary his mother. Falling to their knees, they honored him.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
The faith-driven journey is filled with true joy.

PRAYER
God of the heavens, I've not been led along by a star but you do lead me in many other ways. Thank you. Sometimes I crave for more dramatic signs. Help me to step forward in faith even when I desire clearer and more certain direction. I'm going to experience the joy that comes with trusting you. Amen.

SECURE PRESENCE

PROVERBS 18:10 (CEV)
The Lord is a mighty tower
where his people can run
for safety...

PHILIPPIANS 4:6 (ABP)
Stop all the fussing and worrying. Replace all that with prayer -- making requests, praising God, and offering thanks. Give it all to God!

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Turn to God during the hard times.

PRAYER
Gracious God, I'm thankful that you are available to us even in the hard times. My own lame solutions for safety are never enduring. Draw me into your secure presence. I'm going to be safe with you. Amen.

GOOD GRACE

DEUTERONOMY 5:29 (NLT)
Oh, that they would always have hearts like this, that they might fear me and obey all my commands! If they did, they and their descendants would prosper forever.

HEBREWS 13:9 (CEB)
It’s a good thing for the heart to be strengthened by grace...

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Accept no substitutes; find the strength you need to live well in God's grace.

PRAYER
God, life is a gift from you. And the new life that comes through my connection to Christ is the greatest gift I have experienced. But why is it that I'm so easily suckered into thinking how my life would be so much better if I only had more money or more status or more ___________? Help me to seek strength from you alone. I'm going to rely on your grace to make my life good. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2011 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
