AT EASE

PSALM 91:14 (CEB)
God says, "Because you are devoted to me,
I’ll rescue you.
I’ll protect you because you know my name."

1 JOHN 3:21-22 (CEV)
Dear friends, if we feel at ease in the presence of God, we will have the courage to come near him. He will give us whatever we ask, because we obey him and do what pleases him.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
You can count on God.

PRAYER
Lord God, I appreciate how reliable you are. Even though I am unreliable and am not 100% in line with your instructions, you are still reliable. You are still committed to me. Help me to become more devoted to you. I'm going to feel at ease in your presence. Amen.

FORGIVENESSS AND FREEDOM

PSALM 32:1 (CEV)
Our God, you bless everyone
whose sins you forgive
and wipe away.

COLOSSIANS 1:14 (CEB)
He set us free through the Son and forgave our sins.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Through Christ, we have forgiveness and freedom.

PRAYER
Thank you, God, for the gift of salvation that comes through Christ Jesus and his sacrifice. I confess that I haven't yet fully learned how to handle this freedom. Help me to graciously grow into it so that I can draw others into your freedom. Amen.

ALL-POWERFUL GOD

The Eighth Sunday after Pentecost

2 SAMUEL 7:22 (CEV)
LORD All-Powerful, you are greater than all others. No one is like you, and you alone are God. Everything we have heard about you is true.

REVELATION 1:17-18 (CEV)
He put his right hand on me and said: Don’t be afraid! I am the first, the last, and the living one.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
God is without peers.

PRAYER
Glorious God, you are incredible. There is no one and nothing like you. Yet, I am among those who can become very casual about you and your word. I let the world influence me. Refresh my vision of you and what you're about. I am going to rest under your care and move forward at your direction. Amen.

HEALED

PSALM 147:3 (CEB)
God heals the brokenhearted
and bandages their wounds.

MARK 16:2,4 (ABP)
The women went to the tomb at sunrise on the Sunday morning after the crucifixion. As the daylight grew brighter they could see that the large stone which had sealed the tomb had been rolled back from the entrance.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
All life's brokenheartedness is temporary, wiped out as the light of the resurrection illumines the situation.

PRAYER
Thank you, Father, for the empty tomb. Jesus is risen! He lives with me and in me each day, healing my brokenness and binging up all that causes me pain. Forgive me when I hold onto myself too tightly, not allowing your grace and mercy to permeate my being. Today, I open myself to you, gracious God. Amen. (Daily Texts, Ground Up Grace edition)

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2011 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
