DO GOOD

PROVERBS 3:27 (NLT)
Do not withhold good from those who deserve it
when it’s in your power to help them.

2 THESSALONIANS 3:13 (NLT)
Never get tired of doing good.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
When it comes to seeking justice for the oppressed and good for those in need, stay on task.

PRAYER
Good God, thank you for the way that you look out for us and call us to participate with you in extending your goodness. I confess that I'm sometimes stingy. It's not that I don't want to help others, it's just that I get so caught up in my own stuff that I don't really feel compelled to extend myself for others. Free me from being consumed with the world of my own making. Give me a heart for the needy that transcends circumstances -- and energy from your Spirit to serve. By your grace, I'm going to stay on task. amen.

SAVIOR

PSALM 68:20 (MSG)
He’s our Savior, our God, oh yes!
He’s God-for-us, he’s God-who-saves-us.
Lord GOD knows all
death’s ins and outs.

1 THESALLONIANS 4:14 (CEV)
We believe that Jesus died and was raised to life. We also believe that when God brings Jesus back again, he will bring with him all who had faith in Jesus before they died.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Our Savior rescues us from death.

PRAYER
You are the God-who-saves, and that's good news. We've been dealing with a lot of death recently and I confess that I allow it to drag me down. I get discouraged and I need a lift from you. Remind me of the hope that is ours through Jesus. I'm going to trust him for the now and the future. Amen.

THIRSTY?

PSALM 42:1 (CEV)
As a deer gets thirsty
for streams of water,
I truly am thirsty
for you, my God.

REVELATION 21:6 (CEB)
To the thirsty I will freely give water from the life-giving spring.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Turn to God to satisfy your thirst.

PRAYER
Lord God, these are strange times -- draining times. And I confess that I feel parched because I don't keep myself hydrated with your living water. I'm thirsty and I'm counting on you to refresh me and those around me. That's my prayer for today -- refresh all of us who are spiritually, emotionally, and physically dehydrated -- even those who are unaware of how bad off we are. I'm trusting you to send water. Amen.

WALKING IN THE LIGHT

ISAIAH 50:10 (NLT)
If you are walking in darkness,
without a ray of light,
trust in the LORD
and rely on your God.

2 PETER 1:19 (CEV)
All of this makes us even more certain that what the prophets said is true. So you should pay close attention to their message, as you would to a lamp shining in some dark place. You must keep on paying attention until daylight comes and the morning star rises in your hearts.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Continue to walk according to the light of Christ.

PRAYER
You, Christ Jesus, are the light that has invaded a dark world. Thank you for coming to show us reality and how to navigate through these dim times. Forgive me for drifting into the dark areas -- thinking that I can handle it. I can't and I need you to grab my hand. Draw me back into the light so that I can walk with you until the sun rises. Amen.

DAILYTEXTS.ORG

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2011 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
