SEEK

The Second Sunday after Epiphany

PSALM 105:4 (NLT)
Search for the LORD and for his strength;
continually seek him.

LUKE 11:10 (CEB)
Everyone who asks, receives. Whoever seeks, finds. To everyone who knocks, the door is opened.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Those who make their lives about seeking out the Lord will be successful in their pursuit.

PRAYER
I'm grateful God that, even though you call us to spend our lives seeking out you and your will, you don't play hide-n-seek games with us. You are eager to show us all that we need to see. I confess that I want to know more than I need to know and that I can get worked up over what is unknown to me. Help me to focus on searching for you. I'm going to trust that as I connect with you, what I need will become clear. Amen.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

REPAIRED

ISAIAH 53:5 (MSG)
But the fact is, it was our pains he carried—
our disfigurements, all the things wrong with us.

2 CORINTHIANS 5:21 (CEV)
Christ never sinned! But God treated him as a sinner, so that Christ could make us acceptable to God.

SUMMARY SENTENCE

Christ took on our pain in order to repair our relationship with God.

PRAYER
God, I am awestruck by the lengths that you've gone in order to repair our relationship. And it's not at all your fault. We're the ones who turned away from you, turning your good world into a hell hole. Thank you for the forgiveness that Christ Jesus established through the cross and resurrection. Help me to find new ways of telling this wonderful story. I want to see others awestruck, too.

Amen.

COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS

PSALM 126:3 (CEB)
Yes, the LORD has done great things for us,
and we are overjoyed.

EPHESIANS 1:3 (MSG)
How blessed is God! And what a blessing he is! He’s the Father of our Master, Jesus Christ, and takes us to the high places of blessing in him.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Celebrate all the wonderful things which God does for us.

PRAYER
You, God, are wonderful. You continue to provide for us in ways that exceed all expectations. Yet, I admit that I'm prone to forget your blessings as I long for the next newest thing. Help me to count my blessings. I'm going to start with the gifts of Christ into the world and the Holy Spirit into my life.

Amen.

JOIN THE CHOIR

PSALM 70:4 (MSG)
Let those on the hunt for you
sing and celebrate.
Let all who love your saving way
say over and over, “God is mighty!”

ROMANS 15:5-6 (MSG)
May our dependably steady and warmly personal God develop maturity in you so that you get along with each other as well as Jesus gets along with us all. Then we’ll be a choir—not our voices only, but our very lives singing in harmony in a stunning anthem to the God and Father of our Master Jesus!

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Join the choir.

PRAYER
God, you are great and mighty. I confess that I sing off-key much of the time. Help me to find the harmony so that my life contributes to the glorious anthem of all those who are singing your praise. My goal is to be a part of the choir.

Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2011 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
