SERVE

PSALM 63:8 (NLT)
I cling to you;
your strong right hand holds me securely.

2 TIMOTHY 1:12 (MSG)
I couldn’t be more sure of my ground—the One I’ve trusted in can take care of what he’s trusted me to do right to the end.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Don't get distracted by worry because God is totally trustworthy to help you finish your life assignment.

PRAYER
God, I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely. Forgive me for squirming and pulling away from your grasp. I really don't know what comes over me. But I know that you will stay with me if I'll stay with you -- and even when I tug away you pull back. Strengthen my faith. I'm going to stay the course and stay close to you. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

JUSTICE

PSALM 37:28
The LORD loves justice.

LUKE 20:25 (CEB)
Jesus said to them, “Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.”

SUMMARY SENTENCE
God is interested in making sure that everyone gets what is theirs.

PRAYER
God of justice and mercy, it is so hard for us to figure out how to be consistently just. When we go out of the way to make sure that one person or group gets their due others feel slighted. Help me never give up on justice even when it is hard and complicated. Fill me with your wisdom so that I can sort through the problems that are on my plate. I'm trusting that you will be merciful as you deal with my shortcomings in the realm of justice.

Amen.

ENTHUSIASTIC SERVICE

1 SAMUEL 12:24 (ABP)
Revere GOD and give yourself to serving him alone -- from the depths of who you are -- without wavering. Consider all the great things he has done for you and let them drive your service.

ROMANS 12:11 (CEB)
Don’t hesitate to be enthusiastic—be on fire in the Spirit as you serve the Lord!

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Serve the Lord with enthusiasm.

PRAYER
God God, you have done so much for us. I confess that I take it all for granted and that affects the way I serve you. Stir a genuine enthusiasm in me so that I can direct others toward the great things you've done -- as I more fully appreciate them myself.

Amen.

KEEP THE LIGHT ON

PSALM 78:4 (NLT)
We will tell the next generation
about the glorious deeds of the LORD,
about his power and his mighty wonders.

MATTHEW 5:15 (NLT)
No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Don't fail to communicate the good news of what God has done and is doing through Christ Jesus.

PRAYER
You, Christ Jesus, are the light of the world and you've called us to also be the light of the world. It can only happen when we share your light with those around us. Forgive me for being so timid. Lead me into bold encounters with people who need to hear and see what you're up to. I'm going to keep the light on.

Amen.

DAILYTEXTS.ORG

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2011 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
