Mercy

Lord, see my anguish!
My heart is broken
and my soul despairs,
for I have rebelled against you.

But the tax collector stood at a distance. He wouldn’t even lift his eyes to look toward heaven. Rather, he struck his chest and said, ‘God, show mercy to me, a sinner.’ ~ Luke 18:13 (CEB)

Lord, is it possible that I am at my best when I recognize my need for mercy? I humbly ask that you would show me mercy for I am not so different from the worst of people. Yet, I have confidence in your kindness and I move forward today fueled with your mercy. Help me to be humble and to pass your mercy on to others. Amen.
