New ahead

Look! I am creating new heavens and a new earth, and no one will even think about the old ones anymore. ~ Isaiah 65:17 (NLT)

From that time Jesus began to tell people his message: "Change your hearts and lives, because God’s kingdom is now very near." ~ Matthew 4:17 (ERV)

Jesus, whenever I'm discouraged about the state of the world, remind me again that your new kingdom is very close. You're making all things new -- including people. I want to get ahead of the wave. That is, I desire to live now according to the rules of the coming world. So I declare my intent and desire to leave behind the things which are rooted in the old. Through the work of your Holy Spirit please make it so in my life. Amen.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
