Suffering

Yes, the Lord definitely disciplined me, but he didn’t hand me over to death. ~ Psalm 118:18 (CEB)

My friends, don’t be surprised at the painful things that you are now suffering, which are testing your faith. Don’t think that something strange is happening to you. But you should be happy that you are sharing in Christ’s sufferings. You will be happy and full of joy when Christ shows his glory. ~ 1 Peter 4:12-13 (ERV)

God, I confess that sometimes I'm surprised by and frustrated with the suffering I endure. I somehow got it in my mind that I should be exempt from suffering. But, of course, Christ Jesus suffered. So, even though I'm not happy about the suffering I am happy that I am sharing in his suffering. Help me to have the right attitude about the pain. I'm trusting that you will get me through it. Amen.
