Take away

Then David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” Nathan replied, “The Lord has taken away your sin. You aren’t going to die. ~ 2 Samuel 12:13 (NIRV)

And you know that Jesus came to take away our sins, and there is no sin in him. ~ 1 John 3:5a (NLT)

Lord, when I sin -- and it is too often -- it is truly against you. Sometimes I let things get out of control. I am so grateful that you take it all away -- that you remove all record of my failure and set me back on the path of healthy living. It's all because of Jesus, who himself did not have any sin of his own. Amazing! As I receive your forgiveness I stand in awe of your generosity. Might that continue to define my life. Amen.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
