Turn away!

The Lord God proclaims: Come back! Turn away from your idols and from all your detestable practices. Turn away! ~ Ezekiel 14:6 (CEB)

They referred to Barnabas as Zeus and to Paul as Hermes, since Paul was the main speaker... When the Lord’s messengers Barnabas and Paul found out about this, they tore their clothes in protest and rushed out into the crowd. They shouted, “People, what are you doing? We are humans too, just like you! We are proclaiming the good news to you: turn to the living God and away from such worthless things. ~ Acts 14:12,14-15a (CEB)

Lord, you have called us to repent -- to turn away. Indeed, we should turn from everything that is contrary to you -- for you alone are worth our attention. Interestingly, though, we tend to gravitate toward the worthless and detestable. Why is that? Why is it that we so naturally embrace trash but struggle to embrace you -- your love -- your mercy -- your grace? We are... I am in need of transformation. Enable me to not only turn away from such things but also enable the change over of my very soul into a good news person. I honor you above all else. Amen.
