Food

The Lord said to Moses, “I have heard the complaints of the Israelites. So tell them, ‘Tonight you will eat meat. And in the morning you will have all the bread you want. Then you will know you can trust the Lord, your God.’” ~ Exodus 16:11-12 (ERV)

Then Jesus called for his disciples to come to him. He said, “I feel deep concern for these people. They have already been with me three days. They don’t have anything to eat. I don’t want to send them away hungry. If I do, they will become too weak on their way home.” ~ Matthew 15:32 (NIRV)

Lord, you want us to have what we need. You are as concerned about our bodies as you are about our hearts and minds. Sometimes I'm only concerned about feeding my body. But you are concerned about the entire soul -- body, mind, heart, spirit. Thank you. As you send me out today to face the world I am going to trust you to take care of all my needs. Amen.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
