The Fifth Day of Christmas
And if your wealth increases, don’t make it the center of your life. ~ Psalm 62:10b (NLT)
Then they (the magi) opened their treasure chests and gave him (the infant Jesus) gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. ~ Matthew 2:11b (NLT)
Sometimes, Lord, you entrust us with wealth. I have sometimes wished that you would entrust me with more. And perhaps you will see fit to do that sometime. For now, though, I will be content with what you have given to me. And I am going to work at keeping even the little I have from being the center of my life. Please transform me into a generous person. I want to join with the magi, and all who truly recognize Jesus, in giving incredible gifts. I want my life to be defined not by how much wealth or status I have accumulated -- but by how much I have been able to give away in the name of Jesus. Amen.
