Unity

(Joseph said to his brothers,) “Don’t quarrel about all this along the way!” ~ Genesis 45:24b (NLT)

You are joined together with peace through the Spirit. Do all you can to continue as you are, letting peace hold you together. ~ Ephesians 4:3 (NIRV)

Lord, even though you have brought us together, we like to fight. When we quarrel with each other we feel important. So, instead of looking to you for our sense of importance we jump on others if they do anything wrong. Forgive me and help me to be more understanding. Help me to be more flexible. Help me to find my sense of importance in your love for me. Because of Jesus I'm going to be a peacemaker today. Amen.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
