Praise

Sun and moon, praise God! All of you bright stars, praise God! God gave the command and they were created! ~ Psalm 148:3, 5b (CEB)

Great and awe-inspiring are your works, Lord God Almighty. ~ Revelation 15:3a (CEB)

Lord God Almighty, I am joining with the sun, moon, stars, biblical writers, and the entire choir of creation in praising you! You've created a stunningly awesome world that is way beyond mere randomness. You are behind it all. You are deserving of the recognition that we are so negligent in giving. I admit it, I can be pretty shallow and self-absorbed at times. I don't even think about honoring you. But then I step outside and feel the life-awakening warmth of the early morning sun... or at night I see the moonlight reflected on the ocean waves... And then there is that great array of stars spelling out your story... At that point I can't help but join in. Praise you, God! Amen. Amen. Amen.

Challenging Words
  • awe-inspiring -- something that causes an overwhelming sense of wonder to swell-up inside of you
  • stunningly-- something that is so wonderful that it makes you stop and stare. You are stunned so that you can't do anything else
  • randomness -- the circumstances through which things happen by chance. There is no design or designer.
  • negligent -- When you fail to do your assigned work or if you do not carry out your responsibility you are negligent.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
