Success

The Lord was with Joseph and caused everything he did to succeed. ~ Genesis 39:23b (NLT)

Do this because you yourselves were chosen to receive a blessing. ~ 1 Peter 3:9 (ERV)

Lord, it appears that you are in the business of blessing people with success. Of course, the people you favor are the people who are doing the things you've called them to do. That's where I usually mess up. I'm good at begging you to bless my agenda. Sometimes it fits with your agenda. Usually, though, I've sanitized your agenda so that it more cleanly fits with my own. I confess my lame attempts at manipulation. But I still need and want your blessing. I'm going to move forward and trust you for a successful day. And I'm going to let you, Christ Jesus, define success. Amen.

Challenging Words
  • Sanitized -- cleaned up, removed all foreign or unwelcome elements
  • Manipulation -- to skillfully use or change something so that what you want to happen happens. This word often has a negative connotation -- suggesting a level of deception.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
