United

So the Lord God All-Powerful made everyone eager to work on his temple... ~ Haggai 1:14 (CEV)

Most important, live together in a manner worthy of Christ’s gospel. Do this, whether I come and see you or I’m absent and hear about you. Do this so that you stand firm, united in one spirit and mind as you struggle together to remain faithful to the gospel. ~ Philippians 1:27 (CEB)

Lord God, I am so grateful that I am not the only person to be called by you. There are a lot of us who are called to work together for the gospel. Unfortunately, sometimes we struggle against each other instead of struggling together. I know that is not acceptable to you, and I am determined that from here forward, by your grace, we must be united in one spirit and mind. That is the gospel -- that you have made it so that we can be together with you and one with each other. Even if others don't think that unity is so important I'm going to live like it is. I am going to stand firm and faithful in this gospel -- leading by example. Amen.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
