(The Lord says,) I am sending an angel before you to protect you along the way and to lead you to the place that I have prepared for you. ~ Exodus 23:20 (ERV)
Therefore, angels are only servants—spirits sent to care for people who will inherit salvation. So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it. ~ Hebrews 1:14–2:1 (NLT)
Lord, there is a lot about angels that confuses me. You don't give us very much information about them. But I do understand that they are sent from you to help us. And that makes me respect and honor you even more. You are using all of your resources to lead your people. Thus I need to pay attention to what you have said to us, and to worry less about what we don't understand. That is the exact opposite of what I do. I want to focus most of my energy on figuring out the things I don't understand -- such as angels. If I come up with new insights about such things it makes me look smart and respectable. But such a focus leaves me with less energy to apply toward actually following the truth you have already made clear. I need your help so that I can switch my spiritual priorities. Lord, I'm listening. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS
The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.
The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
