Awesome

Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said... “What an awesome place this is! It is none other than the house of God, the very gateway to heaven!” ~ Genesis 28:16a, 17b (NLT)

A voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son whom I dearly love. I am very pleased with him. Listen to him!” Hearing this, the disciples fell on their faces, filled with awe. But Jesus came and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.” ~ Matthew 17:5b–7 (CEB)
Lord, wherever and in whomever you have revealed yourself, you leave a trail of awe. You fill those people and places with your sacred wonder. And that can be a little scary. But it's not like dealing with the spirits. Through your awe you pick us up and fill us with confidence to move forward. You touch us with the same power that defeated the grave and built a stairway between heaven and earth. Your touch fills us with even more awe. Amazing! I'm going to leave behind all of my fears regarding the future and I'm going to spend the day basking in your awesomeness. Amen.
Challenging Words
  • awe, awesome -- Awe is amazement or a sense of overwhelming wonder that can't be explained. Awesome is the object of the awe. You could say, "I am in awe because God is awesome."
  • sacred -- something holy, connected to God, or dedicated to God or his purposes
  • basking -- to lie around or relax in something pleasurable. For example, "After she got out of the water she was basking in the pleasant warmth of the sun."
