Creation

Palm Sunday

I am the one who made the earth and created people to live on it. ~ Isaiah 45:12a (NLT)

For us there is only one God -- our Father. All things came from him, and we live for him. And there is only one Lord -- Jesus Christ. All things were made through him, and we also were made through him. ~ 1 Corinthians 8:6a (NCV)
God, you made everything through Jesus Christ. And he is you! Thank you for making this wonderful world and all the people. Sometimes I get annoyed with the way that the world has become polluted and the people have become corrupt. But that is not your fault. To the contrary, since you are the Lord, you are working on making the world new. And again, you are doing it through Jesus Christ who gave himself as a sacrifice that would destroy death and start us on a course of renewal. Thank you, too, for including us -- including me -- in this new creation. Help me to live today according to the order of the new creation. Amen.
Challenging Words
  • polluted -- made dirty, poisoned, unhealthy
  • corrupt -- dishonest, when something has been changed so that it is not as good as it was
  • to the contrary -- idiom which means "It is the very opposite."

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
