Trustworthy

The Lord God took the human and settled him in the garden of Eden to farm it and to take care of it. ~ Genesis 2:15 (CEB)

Those who are trusted with such an important work must show that they are worthy of that trust. ~ 1 Corinthians 4:2 (ERV)
Lord, from the very beginning you were delegating responsibility to lesser beings. And from the very beginning we've managed to make a mess of things. You knew that would happen but you gave us responsibility anyway. You must have a purpose for that. Help me to be a better steward of the creation and the gospel mission. Could it be that they are actually the same thing? I'm hoping that since Jesus has launched his kingdom and died to fix creation, that things will start to get better and that I'll finally have the wisdom and power to be worthy of your trust. That's what I live for -- to be trustworthy. Amen.
Challenging Words
  • delegating -- to give responsibility to someone so that the person who gives it does not have to directly overseer the issue. For example -- The store owner delegated responsibility for the operation of the store to a manager, so that the owner did not have to be in the office everyday.
  • steward -- a manager, someone who has been given responsibility for the affairs or property of another
  • trustworthy -- an honest and truthful person who is reliable, a person or object worth trusting

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
