With us

(Moses said,) Lord, if you are pleased with me, please go with us. ~ Exodus 34:9 (ERV)

(Jesus says,) Where two or three people gather in my name, I am there with them. ~ Matthew 18:20 (NIRV)

Lord, the thing we most want in life is to be with you. Sometimes our friends and family members can be annoying. Sometimes they are not very reliable. You, Lord, in contrast, are a faithful and interesting friend. I am never bored when you are with us. And it does appear that your presence is a group activity. I most know that you are with me when I am with your followers. Even though sometimes I don't value being together with other Christians, I know that it is important. For when I'm with them -- as flawed as they are -- you are present with us. And the thing I most want in life is to be with you. So I am going to put new energy into making time to gather with other believers. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
