Blessings
(The Lord said to Abram,) “I will bless you... and you will be a blessing." ~ Genesis 12:2 (part)
You are like salt for everyone on earth. ~ Matthew 5:13a (CEV)
Lord, you are generous. You give so many blessings to us that we can't count them all. There are too many. I confess, though, that sometimes I'm greedy or that I don't see the bigger picture. I think that the blessings you give to me are gifts to be collected and accumulated. But you have blessed me so that I can be a blessing to others. You bless me so that I can improve the lives of others. Help me today to notice at least three people with whom I can share some of your blessings. And grant me wisdom to bless them in an appropriate way. Amen.
Challenging Words
- accumulated -- To accumulate is to collect or add more to the number of what we already have. Often, we accumulate without realizing how much we have saved. For example, the man kept receiving promotional t-shirts without realizing that he had accumulated over 100 of them in his closet.
- appropriate -- proper, right, correct, wise, fitting, suitable. For example, the girl wore her best party dress to school but the teacher sent her home because it was not appropriate for school.
*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS
The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul. The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
