Children

Do this so that your children... will learn to fear the Lord your God. Do this as long as you live... ~ Deuteronomy 31:13 (NLT)

Then Jesus called for the children and said to the disciples, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. ~ Luke 18:16 (NLT)
God, sometimes you call us your children. We must belong to you in a special way. And you must really want us to trust you in the same way that children trust their parents. That would explain why you don't give up on us. You continue to teach and discipline us even when we are so rebellious. And I am probably the worst child of all. I am trouble but amazingly you still welcome me into your presence and your kingdom. Teach me to fear you. Amen.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
