Others

Show your fear of God by not taking advantage of each other. I am the Lord your God. ~ Leviticus 25:17a (NLT)

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. ~ Philippians 2:3 (NLT)
Dear God, it appears that one of the most important ways we show respect to you is by showing respect to the people around us. I like showing respect to you, but find it difficult respecting others. It is especially hard for me to honor those who are self-serving blowhard morons. I'm on the lookout for ways to put such people in their place -- to take advantage of their weak moments to knock them down to size. But that doesn't appear to be my calling. I'm going to leave the humiliation to you. I will honor you by letting you be the only God and judge. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
